Police deny reports on Boeremag-linked explosives

Gauteng police on Monday dismissed media reports that explosives and weapons found on a plot in Rustenburg were linked to the Boeremag.

Superintendent Eugene Opperman confirmed reports that police, following up leads on victims of 1980s serial paedophile Gert van Rooyen, stumbled upon explosives and ammunition at the weekend.

He, however, denied any link with the Boeremag.

”At this stage we cannot say anything about the Boeremag … I don’t know where they got that from,” Opperman said.

In a report published on Monday, the Star said investigators combing the area where the explosives were found had linked the explosives to the Boeremag.

”We are not going to elaborate on anything at this stage. We will release a statement when there is more information,” Opperman said. — Sapa
