Malema to meet Pandor following ‘fake accent’ spat

Education Minister Naledi Pandor and ANC Youth League leader Julius are expected to meet on Tuesday afternoon to discuss problems at tertiary institutions, the league said.

Pandor and Malema were expected to discuss the strike at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and problems at other tertiary institutions, said ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu in a statement on Tuesday.

The outspoken Malema landed in hot water over his recent remarks about Pandor to TUT students.

”She must use that fake accent to address our problems,” he told students.

Malema sent an apology to Pandor the next day.

”I acknowledge that the remarks I made against you were uncalled for and might have disappointed and hurt you,” it read.

In response, the African National Congress said the youth league president’s comments were ‘uncalled for and unacceptable”.

‘They suggest a lack of respect for the dignity of the individual concerned and the important work they have been entrusted to undertake,” said party spokesperson Jessie Duarte.

Tuesday’s meeting, in Boksburg, Johannesburg, would be followed by a short media briefing, Shivambu said. – Sapa
