Rain threatens Durban ODI finale

The final one-day international between South Africa and England at Kingsmead on Friday has been delayed by persistent drizzle in Durban.

At 2pm, when the toss should have been taken, television commentators and ground staff were the only people seen on the field, all of them sheltered by umbrellas.

A handful of optimistic spectators made their way to the ground, to be greeted by the sight of the maximum covers and a soggy outfield.

If no play is possible, England become the first country to win a bilateral series against the Proteas in South Africa since Australia won the 2000/2001 series 5-1.

The tourists won the second and third ODIs, both times by seven wickets, while South Africa won the third by 112 runs. The first match was also washed out by rain. — Sapa
