Mourners pay respects at Manto memorial service

 PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - Dec 21 2009 15:33

About 300 people were assembled at the Pretoria City Hall on Monday afternoon for the memorial service of former health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang.

African National Congress Women's League members dressed in their green and black uniform joined the ANC Youth League in a song praising the former health minister.

"Kae kapa kae Manto re ya le wena [Wherever you go Manto, we go with you]," they sang.

A number of nurses in full uniform were also in attendance.

A giant screen bearing her portrait and footage from her days at the helm of the Health Department loomed large in the city hall. Another giant screen was placed outside the hall for those who could not fit indoors..

Tshabalala-Msimang died last week from complications resulting from a liver transplant two years ago. -- Sapa
