Carroll named Anglo Platinum chairperson

Cynthia Carroll, chief executive of Anglo American, will become chairperson of Anglo Platinum with effect from September 1 2010.

Cynthia Carroll, chief executive of Anglo American, will become chairperson of Anglo Platinum with effect from September 1 2010.

Anglo Platinum said on Monday that Carroll’s appointment followed Fred Phaswana’s resignation as chairperson of Anglo Platinum with effect from August 31 2010.

“Anglo American is the majority shareholder of Anglo Platinum and the appointment of Cynthia Carroll as chairperson continues the approach of drawing the Anglo Platinum chairperson from the Anglo American board, of which Fred Phaswana was also a member for almost seven years,” the company said in a statement.

The board also appointed Valli Moosa as deputy chairperson and lead independent non-executive director and chairperson of the governance committee.

Moosa would replace Tom Wixley who had served as deputy chairperson for nine years and who would continue as an independent non-executive director and chairperson of the remuneration committee, the statement said.—Sapa
