Mpumalanga premier David Mabuza failed to consult the alliance partners on his recent reshuffle of the provincial executive, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in Mpumalanga said on Monday.
“His deliberate unilateral and autocratic action seriously undermines all the attempts to build unity and cohesion within the alliance in the province,” Cosatu provincial secretary Fidel Mlombo said in a statement.
“It is unfortunate that our province is slowly sliding back to the era in the history of the alliance, where the alliance relations were characterised by antagonism and intense public discord among components of the alliance.”
Last week Mabuza called an urgent media briefing where he announced the reconfiguration of his provincial executive.
The shuffle followed a national Cabinet rework by President Jacob Zuma and a provincial reshuffle in Gauteng.
Mlombo said the common objective of the alliance was to promote the national democratic revolution and any action undermining this objective was “counter revolutionary”.
Strained relations
Relations between the African National Congress (ANC) and its labour alliance partner have recently been strained.
The latest episode in the spat between the two was the federation’s hosting of a civil society conference without inviting the ANC. — Sapa
