Selebi granted leave to appeal

Former national police commissioner Jackie Selebi has been granted leave to appeal against his conviction by the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Former national police commissioner Jackie Selebi was on Tuesday granted leave to appeal against his conviction by the Supreme Court of Appeal.

The court held that leave to appeal was granted in terms of whether the state had proved that Selebi had provided Glenn Agliotti with anything in return as a result of gratification received from the convicted drug trafficker.

The rest of the grounds forwarded by Selebi in his application for leave to appeal were dismissed.

Earlier this year, Judge Meyer Joffe found Selebi guilty of corruption and sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment as a result of his finding that Selebi received payments from Agliotti.—Sapa
