World Cup-winning flyhalf Butch James will be joining the Lions in May, it was announced on Tuesday when he arrived at Lanseria Airport.

World Cup-winning flyhalf Butch James will be joining the Lions in May, it was announced on Tuesday when he arrived at Lanseria Airport.

This announcement ended speculation about the Springbok’s ambitions to help South Africa defend the title they won in 2007.

James will be joining the Lions from English club Bath.

He is the first major signing that billionaire businessmen Robert Gumede and Ivor Ichikowitz, the new owners of the Lions, have made.—Sapa
