Zuma to honour photographer Nzima, Danny Jordaan

World Cup organiser Danny Jordaan and Sam Nzima, who took the photograph of a slain Hector Pietersen, will be honoured by President Jacob Zuma.

Former Brazilian president Lula da Silva, World Cup organisers Danny Jordaan and Irvin Khoza, and Sam Nzima, who took the photograph of a slain Hector Pietersen in 1976, will be honoured by President Jacob Zuma on Wednesday.

Lula is to receive The Order of the Companions of OR Tambo, while Jordaan, Khoza and Nzima will receive The Order of Ikhamanga.

“President Zuma will bestow National Orders of the Order of Mendi for Bravery, Order of Ikhamanga, the Order of the Baobab, the Order of Luthuli, the Order of Mapungubwe and the Order of the Companions of OR Tambo,” the Presidency said in a statement.

Others to be honoured include writer Marlene van Niekerk, photographer David Goldblatt and musician Ray Phiri.—Sapa
