The changing political landscape

Political parties’ fortunes have waxed and waned in the past five years. We’ve contrasted some of the 2011 poll’s trends with the 2006 results.

ANC support was strong and stable in this year’s elections, and DA support seemed slightly on the rise in preliminary municipal election results released on Thursday.

By 4pm, with 80% of the results audited and released, the African National Congress was mourning the loss of Midvaal municipality in Gauteng, but celebrating a convincing victory in Nelson Mandela Bay in the hotly contested Eastern Cape.

Countrywide, the ANC had garnered 64.17% of the vote by 4pm and the DA 21.57%.
