City Power Johannesburg has posted load-shedding schedules on its website, but said this did not mean it would happen, the Citizen reported on Thursday.
“On an annual basis we update our load-shedding schedules. However, at this stage there is no indication of load-shedding,” said City Power spokesperson Louis Pieterse.
Some areas on the schedule are listed for load-shedding three times a week, from 6am to 10am, or 6pm to 10pm.
Earlier this month, Eskom said that it did not issue an alert despite municipalities updating their load-shedding schedules.
The Citizen reported that residents were unhappy with how the scheduling for possible load-shedding has been compiled and how it has been communicated. The paper quoted one resident as saying: “How can they say this might happen, but not be able to confirm it?”
The Mail & Guardian reported in earlier in May that Eskom had assured the public it is working on managing the tight system and doing all it can to avoid the possibility of load-shedding — while trying to see its new-build programme completed in time to alleviate strain on the national power grid.
