Carter leads Crusaders past Stormers into Super final

Dan Carter scored 19 points as the Crusaders eased past the Stormers 29-10 in their Super rugby semifinal at Newlands on Saturday.

Flyhalf Carter succeeded with two conversions and five penalties, before being subbed in the 76th minute, as the Crusaders booked a place in the final against the Queensland Reds in Brisbane next Saturday.

The Crusaders, chasing their eighth Super rugby title, were full value for their win after scoring two tries against one for last year’s beaten finalists.

The New Zealanders scored the first two tries of the contest, through wing Sean Maitland and outside centre Robbie Fruean, while Springbok wing Bryan Habana crossed for the hosts in the dying minutes of the first half.

Carter proved to be the difference between the teams as the 29-year-old missed just two attempts at goal as the Crusaders made light of the 11 000 km they had to travel at the beginning of the week to contest the semifinal. – Reuters
