SABC, producers agree to work together

The SABC is committed to working with independent producers to develop stable employment opportunities in the industry, the state broadcaster says.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) was committed to working with the Independent Producers Organisation (IPO), the broadcaster said after meeting the IPO in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

“In the fruitful meeting, the two parties agreed to work together on improving communication that will strengthen both the sector and the public broadcaster,” the SABC said.

“The meeting also agreed to map a way forward with regards to local content and terms of trade.”

Addressing the meeting, SABC acting group chief executive officer Phil Molefe said he was committed to meeting every month with the IPO.

The IPO’s co-chair Desiree Markgraff said the organisation aimed to build a partnership with the SABC and develop a “sustainable production sector that provides stable employment for thousands of people”.—Sapa
