Drink-spiller found guilty of assaulting Zuma

Daryl Peense, who spilled his drink on President Jacob Zuma at the Durban July horse race last year, has been found guilty of assault.

A Gauteng man was found guilty on Wednesday of spilling his drink on President Jacob Zuma.

‘Daryl Peense has been found guilty of assault. The case has been adjourned to September 7 for sentencing,” said National Prosecution Authority regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson.

Peense was arrested during the Durban July horse race last year.

During the trial, Peense denied deliberately spilling his drink on the president, claiming it spilled when people pushed against him to get a better view of Zuma.

He claimed he was drunk at the time. — Sapa
