Aid convoy to Gaza visits Harare

Organisers of an aid convoy to Gaza say they are passing through several African cities to raise awareness about the “plight of Palestinians” on their way to deliver humanitarian aid.

Dubbed Africa1, the convoy — an initiative of the South African-based Muslim organisation, Al-Quds — arrived in Harare on Thursday carrying medical supplies, water and clothing.

Shakir Baker, coordinator of Al-Quds, said he was confident the convoy, the first of its kind from Africa, would reach the Gaza strip despite previous aid convoys being denied entry.

The convoy leaves Harare today for Zambia’s capital, Lusaka. — Sapa-AP
