Jo'burg theatre pick: November 4 2011

Just when you think you comprehend all the uses and abuses of art, along comes a new concept.

The Sibikwa Arts and Dance Company presents a multidisciplinary arts festival of solo performance titled Breaking New Ground. Now in its second year, there are absolutely no constraints on the narrative content the artists may present, but there is one catch: the pieces may not last longer than 15 minutes.

Names include visual artist Nicola Taylor, performance artist Sindi Sampson, festival organiser Leigh Nudelman, choreographer Kieron Jina and dancers from the Vuyani Dance Theatre, Sibikwa and Moving into Dance Mophatong.

Sci-Bono Education Centre, corner of Miriam Makeba and President streets, Newtown, on November 4 and 5 at 6.30pm, and on November 6 at 2.30pm Tickets are R30 at the door.
