Jo'burg literary pick: November 18 2011

The editor of A Bosman Companion, Craig MacKenzie, will be in conversation with his co-author Tim Sandham and photographer David Goldblat.

Boekehuis is one of the few shops in the country whose aesthetic of a bookshop is close to the ideal.

Small, intimate and familial, it is a throwback to the bookshops of old, long before the internet invasion.

This week’s discussion centres around the life and work of the late master storyteller Herman Charles Bosman. The editor and compiler of A Bosman Companion, Craig MacKenzie, will be in conversation with his co-author Tim Sandham and photographer David Goldblatt, whose photographs are featured in a new volume, titled The Complete Voorkamer Stories. Goldblatt has followed the Bosman trail and has a past body of work featuring the Marico people so intimately explored in Bosman’s literary works. Actor David Butler will perform a tale from the Voorkamer stories.

Boekehuis Bookshop, corner of Lothbury and Fawley streets, Auckland Park, on November 19 at 12pm. RSVP by November. Tel: 011 482 3609.
