Wits to face Bucs in Telkom final

Wits will square up against Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout final after the Students struck three times in the second half to beat Santos 3-0 in their semifinal in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The Students had the better chances in the first half, narrowly missing two great opportunities.

Captain Sifiso Myeni hit the crossbar from a free kick midway through the first half, and two minutes later Asive Langwe lobbed an effort over the posts.

Santos also came close in the 28th minute when Jonathan Armogram fired over the bar with only the keeper to beat as the sides went into the break deadlocked 0-0.

Wits again pushed forward in the second half, but this time they found success.

Langwe gave them the lead in the 53rd minute when he latched on to a cross from Ryan Chapman to tap in from close range.

Chapman blasted home an effort 10 minutes later, inside the area, thundering the ball across the goalmouth and into the back of the net.

Myeni came close again in injury time, breaking clear down the middle of the park, but he was closed down by the Santos defence as they averted the danger.

Seconds later, however, Sifiso Vilakazi added a third, to make sure, flicking the ball into the net to secure the win.

Pirates won the first semifinal on Saturday, bagging a 3-1 win over Golden Arrows in Durban. – Sapa
