Ex-NPA official held for R13-million tender fraud

Two people were arrested by the Hawks in Pretoria and the Western Cape on Friday morning for alleged tender fraud, Gauteng police said.

“It is alleged that the suspects were involved in the rigging of a tender worth R13-million which was awarded for guarding and special services at the National Prosecuting Authority’s premises in Kwazulu-Natal during 2006,” said Lt-Col Tshisikhawe Ndou.

The tender contract was subsequently terminated in 2009.

Ndou said one of the arrested men was a former employee of the NPA who evaluated security and the risk environment.

The two, aged 33 and 41, face charges of fraud and corruption and will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

More arrests were expected soon, Ndou said. — Sapa
