Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu was discharged from hospital on Tuesday after undergoing minor surgery last week, his office said.

“The Archbishop walked out of the Constantiaberg Medi-Clinic at about 11am and went home to rest.”

Tutu wished to thank “all the wonderful people who had sent him messages and flowers over the weekend”.

The Desmond Tutu Peace Centre has not disclosed the condition for which Tutu (80), underwent elective surgery on Friday, merely saying it was “a matter of allowing him to live more comfortably”.
