I’m not going anywhere, says Smith

I'm Not Going Anywhere

While rumours abounded on social media networks on Thursday, Proteas skipper Graeme Smith denied he had any thoughts of resigning after his team suffered a humiliating 208-run defeat by Sri Lanka at Kingsmead on Thursday.

The visitors bounced back from an innings defeat at SuperSport Park two weeks ago to level the three-Test series one-all.

A post on Twitter suggested that Smith had resigned and went so far as to say he was unhappy with team selection changes for the next Test in Cape Town.

“That’s not the case at all,” said Smith, who looked emotionally drained at the end of the match.

“As long as Gary [Kirsten] and the team want me in the job, I’ll do the job.

“For as long as I’m wanted as captain, I’ll get in and do the job to the best of my ability.

“Unfortunately, when you lose in the manner that we did today [Thursday], there are disappointing stories out there but I think that one was a bit too much.” — Sapa
