Youth agency may purge Malema allies — report

Allies of expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema may be ousted from the National Youth Development Agency’s board, the Sunday Times reported.

The board’s term of office would expire at the end of May. Nominations for board members closed at the end of March.

NYDA chairman Andile Lungisa, CEO Steven Ngubeni, and chief operations officer Magdalene Moonsamy, all Malema supporters, were expected to be removed from the board, the paper reported.

In total, 23 candidates had been shortlisted for the board.

But names of Zuma supporters could be added to this list, according to the weekly. There were seven seats on the board.

ANCYL spokesperson Magdalene Moonsamy referred queries to the NYDA, who in turn referred queries to Lungisa, who was not available for comment. — Sapa
