Manyi's comments on racism, economic transformation and e-tolling have seen the cantankerous spokesperson at loggerheads with the media and ministers – with him often claiming to be the victim of a conspiracy.

Last week, Manyi claimed to be the victim of a Mail & Guardian conspiracy over an article about his failed restructuring plans for government communications.

In a statement, Manyi was described as "pointing out that it was very clear, reading from some of the questions, that the thesis of the smear campaign is that Manyi disrespects authority; an insinuation which is not only malicious nor devoid of any substance but artificially created to feed the story line."

We rounded up some of Manyi's most memorable faux pas, and it seems that description wasn't far from the truth.
