Wife of new ANC chief whip Sizani faces criminal charges

Wife Of New Anc Chief Whip Sizani Faces Criminal Charges

The newspaper reported that Sizani's wife Nontuthuzela "Pankie" Sizani, was arrested in Port Elizabeth in December on charges of money laundering and theft totalling about R1.3-million.

The charges dated back to the time when Nontuthuzela headed the city's district's early child development unit. She is accused of creating "ghost teachers" and then pocketing their salaries.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Tsepo Ndwalaza said Nontuthuzela's trial was set to start in Port Elizabeth's Commercial Crimes Court in August.

ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu told the newspaper many comrades had wives who were in court but this did not affect their work in the ANC.

"If there was a criminal matter against comrade Sizani, and it was comrade Sizani sitting in court, it would be different.

So long as he is not in court, we are quite comfortable." – Sapa
