Heavy rainfall was expected in Mpumalanga and some parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the eastern coastal areas on Monday, WeatherSA said.
Flooding could be expected in the low-lying areas of the Eastern Cape, said a WeatherSA forecaster Christina Thaele.
The whole country was affected by rain over the weekend except the western parts of the Northern Cape and the extreme western parts of the Western Cape.
"From tomorrow [Tuesday] we are expecting clear weather conditions for the rest of the country but expecting showers in the central and eastern parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal."
Thaele said there were no reports of badly affected areas except that rivers were reportedly full in Gauteng.
A 12-year-old boy drowned after he fell into a stream during flooding in Tladi on Saturday, Soweto police said.
This was in the afternoon when the area was heavily flooded, said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.
Remain cautious
A number of accidents were reported in Johannesburg as a result of the rainy weather over the weekend, said Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
A bus got stuck in Klipspruit Road in Orlando, Soweto, where the road was flooded and it had to be towed out.
Two women and an eight-year-old child were killed and three others were injured when two vehicles collided in Midrand on Saturday.
The injured were taken to hospital, said Minnaar.
In another accident, a truck driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a bridge on the M2 East in Germiston, he said.
On Jan Smuts Avenue North, five cars collided but no one was injured.
On Sunday morning, five cars and four buses collided on the M1. Ten people were injured and taken to hospital.
Minnaar urged motorist to remain cautious and adjust their driving in wet conditions.
"It is important that they reduce speed and keep the safe following distances."
Twelve injured
In KwaZulu-Natal, 12 people were injured in two separate accidents in Durban over the weekend due to rainy weather, paramedics said.
Six people were injured when two vehicles collided at the intersection of McDonald and Frere roads on Friday, said Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
On Sunday six other people were injured when two cars collided at the Franscois and Bartle roads intersection. – Sapa
