Masina: No Disruptions During Eff, Ancyl Tembisa Rallies

The ANC Youth League and its expelled president Julius Malema's EFF will hold rallies in close proximity to each other in Tembisa on Saturday.

On Thursday, African National Congress Youth League national convenor Mzwandile Masina said members would not seek to disrupt the Economic Freedom Fighters' gathering.

"No point for anyone to say we want to start a fight… We have no intention whatsoever to disrupt anyone's useless event," he said.

"These expelled, frustrated fools will be holding their rally in the adjacent stadium… We are not really worried," Masina said of Malema and his spokesman Floyd Shivambu, both former ANCYL members.

On January 11, a number of ANC supporters were arrested for public violence when they disrupted an EFF event in Nkandla.

Some of the ANC group began throwing stones at the EFF group, who were handing over a house to a woman. Police intervened using truncheons, a water cannon and tear gas.

On Saturday the ANCYL will hold its youth election festival at Makhulong Stadium, while Malema will launch the EFF's election manifesto.

Also on Saturday, African Christian Democratic Party leader Kenneth Meshoe will launch his party's manifesto in Soweto. –Sapa
