Saftas 2014: Ironing out the glitches

The Saftas were held at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg over two days and was hosted by comedians Tumi Morake and Alan Committie.

Improvement, however, did not include disastrous red carpet coverage where guests were welcomed to the Saturday night awards ceremony by a boisterous Bonang Matheba.

Although not broadcast live, technical difficulties resulted in Matheba being mostly inaudible. Some other not-so-technical snags had interviewees uncertain of where to look – Matheba or the camera.

Overpowering music, laid back guests and the exceedingly excited Matheba didn’t quite work together but she managed to hold her own among the chaos.

The break in live feed made a reappearance during Jahmil X. T Qubeka’s best director acceptance speech for Of Good Report.

The formerly banned film took home six awards, including best feature, director, writing team of a feature film, actor in a feature film, supporting actress in a feature film and supporting actor in a feature film.
