M&G is hiring: Social media editor

Do you eat sleep and breathe social media? We're looking for a journalist who can apply their skill sets to our various platforms.

This is a full-time position based at the M&G offices in Rosebank, Johannesburg. Prospective candidates must have a tertiary degree in journalism and at least two years experience in the digital media industry. The candidate should have strong news instincts, a keen interest in online trends and emerging online social tools as well as an excellent grasp of the english language. The candidate will report to the deputy digital news editor.

To implement and develop strategies for the M&G’s social media platforms and update those platforms with content from the site as well as create social content that drives traffic to the site.

Key outputs:
Manage and update the M&G’s social media accounts as well as tend to followers and fans across the platforms. Attend daily news diary meetings and help integrate social media into daily coverage. Stay abreast of new developments in the area of social media, introduce and implement new story telling tools creating an M&G presence. 

Tend to engagement on the platforms and moderate comments from users and followers.  

  • Create content around trending topics and social trends on platforms  
  • Use social media to enhance user engagement, use engagement as a tool to create user generated/aggregated/contributed content, create an open newsroom 
  • Assist the rest of the M&G in using social media effectively in projects and coverage Run/attend training workshops if and where necessary.

The appointment will be done in line with M&G Media Ltd Employment Equity Policy and the remuneration will commensurate with the position.
