JOHANNESBURG, June 4 (ANA) – There will be no shift in what the African National Congress has promised to do to change the lives of ordinary people and renew the social contract between the people and government, Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula said on Saturday.
Mbalula was speaking at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg ahead of the Gauteng launch of the ANC’s August 3 municipal elections manifesto.
Mbalula said he was confident the ANC would retain a majority in the much contested Gauteng municipalities despite the party’s weak showing at the last national polls where it got 51 percent of the vote.
“We are very confident. We do not doubt our capacity to mobilise and orgainise our people to come out in numbers and vote. After all, the ANC has a good story to tell,” Mbalula said.
“We will hammer on what we will do in terms of our elections manifesto. Basically, we will deliver in terms of bread and butter issues, addressing the challenges that affect indigent people and building a social contract between the people and government.”
Mbalula said he had no doubt that the 94,000-seat stadium would not only be full to capacity for the event but “it will be packed”.
