Acoustic metamorphosis

Acoustic Metamorphosis

Pretoria’s prog-rock revivalists, Isochronous, are back and this time they are unplugged.

Following on from their self-titled debut album, released in 2008, the band has prepared a brand-new acoustic album, which they will be launching around the country in April and May.

Titled Imago, the new acoustic album features five brand-spanking-new tracks as well as reworkings of three of the better songs from their debut album.

The reworked tracks are Beauty Queen, Monition and The Titan.

Front man Richard Brokensha, who is also a multi-instrumentalist for Kidofdoom, says the new album is all about exploring a different musical side of the band.

Of the new tracks the most impressive are The Curve — a beautiful piano-driven number with some great strings — and Nebula where Brokensha’s voice is very reminiscent of Death Cab for Cutie’s singer, Ben Gibbard.

Moody and atmospheric, Imago is a great move by this young band, which shows off another side to their craft.

Brokensha says a cellist and violist will join the band during the tour. There are also plans for an additional vocalist and, at the Johannesburg launch, the band will be playing on stage from within a cocoon, which the band is currently building.

Isochronous will launch Imago at Tings ‘n Times in Pretoria on April 8, at the Rustic Theatre in Johannesburg on April 22, in Cape Town on April 30 and May 1 (venues to be confirmed) and at the Rock Room in Stellenbosch on May 2.
