Blade Nzimande.
The Mail & Guardian stooped to very low standards of journalism when it published an article attacking South African Communist Party (SACP) general secretary Blade Nzimande based purely on unnamed sources ("'Insult law' won't shield Nzimande from his ANC opponents", November 23). It went so far as to claim that Nzimande is not popular with ordinary ANC members.
It is a shocker that the newspaper decided to publish such an opinion, relying purely on unnamed sources and thereby dragging Nzimande's integrity through the mud.
Consequently, readers cannot trust the authenticity of the opinions in the article or in the M&G.
This act by the newspaper may influence readers to conclude that the M&G itself is pushing such unfortunate views of Nzimande and that the sources "in trade union federation Cosatu and the SACP" do not really exist.
The view that Nzimande abandoned the working-class struggle can only be taken with a pinch of salt. The article was intended to insult Nzimande while hiding behind the principle of freedom of the media. – Thabo Thwala, Bothaville
