The Netherlands forward held talks with Arsenal about a new deal before the European Championship. He would be allowed to leave for free at the end of next season when his current contract expires.
On his official website, Van Persie wrote on Wednesday: "I've thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract."
Van Persie added that after meeting with manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis "it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward." – Sapa-AP.
