Police confiscated counterfeit goods with a combined estimated worth of more than R800 000 from shop owners in Limpopo and Gauteng, the Hawks said on Sunday.

Spokesperson Paul Ramaloko said the operation in Limpopo was conducted in Tzaneen and Polokwane, where 15 shops were raided last week.

"A total of 1 827 items of fake designer clothes to the value of R335 000 was seized.

"After [a warning], shop owners voluntarily surrendered the items to the police and were not arrested," said Ramaloko.

In Gauteng, Vaal police seized counterfeit goods worth R500 000.

"Ten men were arrested. They were released on a warning after their goods were surrendered voluntarily."

The Hawks would intensify investigations into the suppliers of counterfeit goods, said Ramaloko. – Sapa
