Roads Shut For Soweto Derby

Roads will be closed around the FNB Stadium on Saturday for the Soweto soccer derby , the Johannesburg Metro police said.

"The roads would be closed from 9am until 5.30pm," said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Roads that were affected by the road closure included Nasrec Road and Rand Show Road.

Motorists were advised use Chris Hani Drive, Elias Motsoaledi Road and New Canada Road.

"Only buses and taxis will be allowed to pass the checkpoints near the stadium.

"Cars which are parked illegally will be towed at a cost of R2,240," Minnaar said.

Soccer fans can use public transport such as the Rea Vaya buses which would operate from Cresta, Ellis Park, Braamfontein and Soweto.

Taxis from the Top Six Taxi Association would also be available to transport fans.

"The Metro Rail train service will operate from the Johannesburg CBD, Vereeniging , Lenasia, Orlando, Lerala, Tembisa, Germiston, Springs and Brakpan," Minnaar said. –Sapa
