Golden Age Rising, an exhibition of sculptures by Daniella Mooney
Daniella Mooney completed her BA in fine art at the University of Cape Town in 2009 and is now an artist based in Cape Town, where she works from a shared studio in Paarden Eiland.
In Golden Age Rising – her second solo exhibition at Whatiftheworld Gallery in Woodstock, on until 17 May – Mooney is concerned with exploring the notion of the numinous: an experience in which one feels to be in the presence of divinity.
Seeking to create an entire space rather than a separate or disjointed collection of works, her seven sculptures on display are meant to be experienced in relation to one another. The collection includes an electric organ that produces sound according to the movement of the sun, a porcelain archway, a gold inscribed marble disc and a glass cabinet containing seven smaller-scale sculptures.
Akedo’s first fashion film, by Dolph & Lundgren
Akedo is an up-and-coming fashion label by designer Eleni Labrou, who has been creating a buzz as an emerging designer since winning the AFI Fastrack initiative at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in 2013.
The brand has been featured in a number of fashion magazines and has stocked several online stores and pop-ups.
Akedo’s first fashion film features its Pre-Fall 2014 collection worn by a blonde-wigged model in a series of bizarre scenarios, in line with the brand’s inherent kookiness. Dolph & Lundgren, who are behind the brand’s new website, made the film.

Wilhelm Venter is a Cape Town-based architect and product designer who takes intriguing photographs in his free time.
Though exposed to photography at a young age through the pages of National Geographic and Time magazines, it was only later on a European tour with local band Fokofpolisiekar (Wilhelm’s brother is drummer Jaco ‘Snake’ Venter) that he was inspired to take pictures after seeing Liam Lynch at work.
“He was omnipresent with his camera strapped to his hand, and had a gift for anticipating when interesting moments would happen and where he should position himself to get the best composition for a shot,” says Venter. Soon after, he bought himself an advanced compact camera and began developing his now sharp eye for interesting compositions and content.
Window Shopper, a photo essay by Grant Payne
Grant Payne adds (or perhaps takes away) another element to street photography in a collection of images called Window Shopper. Rather than taking to the streets on foot, he used public transport to capture and share an unaffected and spontaneous look at Cape Town street life.
It was not an entirely new experience for him as Payne has been riding shotgun with a camera ever since receiving his first car, catching moments that won’t come around again and that he wouldn’t have time to park and jump out for. For this series he rode the MyCiti bus around Cape Town capturing subjects through the glass.
