Federer eyes Sampras's grand-slam record

Roger Federer again came close to winning the Grand Slam in 2007, reaching the final at all four major tournaments and winning three of them. This year, however, the top-ranked Swiss also came close to losing his record 54-match winning streak on grass at Wimbledon, and then struggled a bit after winning the United States Open.

Federer bests Sampras again

World number one Roger Federer defeated retired United States legend Pete Sampras on Thursday for the second straight time in three days at an exhibition match in Kuala Lumpur. Both men held serve to take the first set to a tie-break, with the Swiss maestro inching ahead when Sampras hit a forehand into the net.

US, Germany take leads in Davis Cup semifinals

The United States and Germany each won their doubles matches on Friday to move within one point of reaching the Davis Cup final. Top-ranked doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan gave the US a 2-1 lead at Sweden by beating Simon Aspelin and Jonas Bjorkman 7-6 (11), 6-2, 6-3.

Sweden, Germany rally in Davis Cup

Sweden and Germany rallied on Friday to ensure their Davis Cup semifinal matches will be decided on the final day. Thomas Johansson beat James Blake to put Sweden even at 1-1 in their best-of-five series against the visiting United States, and Philipp Kohlschreiber did the same for Germany by defeating fourth-ranked Nikolay Davydenko.
