The minister of correctional services has welcomed Tuesday’s high court ruling dismissing convicted murderer Clive Derby-Lewis’s parole bid.
The ANC on Tuesday joined the family of Chris Hani in welcoming a court ruling dismissing Clive Derby-Lewis’s parole bid.
The parole application of Chris Hani’s murderer, Clive Derby-Lewis, was dismissed in the North Gauteng High Court on Tuesday.
The Pretoria High Court will hand down judgement on Tuesday in the parole application of Clive Derby-Lewis, who was convicted of murdering Chris Hani.
The optimism expressed by Chris Hani’s murderer, Clive Derby-Lewis, after his parole application, was premature, Hani’s widow said on Wednesday.
To deny Limpho Hani the right to participate in the parole hearing of her husband’s killer was ”cruel justice, a Pretoria court heard on Tuesday.
Chris Hani’s killer, Clive Derby-Lewis, is not entitled to parole although he is eligible for it, the North Gauteng High Court heard on Tuesday.

Lawyers acting for Chris Hani’s killers said they would proceed with an application to the high court, asking it to compel President Thabo Mbeki to make a decision on their application for a presidential pardon. Janusz Walus and Clive Derby-Lewis unsuccessfully sought amnesty from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 1999 for the 1993 assassination of Hani.
