A lack of appropriate action by South Africa’s leaders has allowed the country to become the rape capital of the world, the DA said on Friday.
One in four men in SA have admitted to rape and many confess to attacking more than one victim, according to a study by the Medical Research Council.

All HIV vaccine trials in South Africa have been put on hold following the failure of the Phambili trial. Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang on Wednesday invited researchers who worked on the Phambili study to her office in Pretoria to explain the reasons why the vaccine trial was stopped.
A new liver costs about R450 000, according to Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang — herself the recent recipient of a new liver. In a written reply to a question by the Inkatha Freedom Party’s Ruth Rabinowitz in the National Assembly, she said hospital expenditure on liver transplants was, all inclusive, about R450 000 per patient.
