Ajax title hopes dented

They are still in the Absa Premiership title race by the skin of their teeth, but the 1-1 draw with Santos in a dour, uncompromising Cape derby at Athlone Stadium on Thursday night was not the result Ajax Cape Town were seeking. Now three points behind log leaders SuperSport United going into the final round of fixtures on Sunday, Ajax’s hopes are hanging by a thread.

Ajax looking good at the top

Ajax Cape Town have opened up a two-point gap over SuperSport United at the top of the Absa Premiership log following their 3-0 trouncing of AmaZulu at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night. SuperSport, however, have a game in hand — they meet Moroka Swallows on Saturday evening in a must-win match.

Ajax back on top

Ajax Cape Town’s brave 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates at the Athlone Stadium saw them reclaim their position at the top of the Absa Premiership standings. There was action from the outset as Ajax started the game at a cracking pace, with Nhlanhla Shabalala and Nathan Paulse bringing out saves from Bucs keeper Senzo Meyiwa within the opening six minutes.

Swallows deal crushing blow to Ajax

The unpredictable Moroka Swallows were flying high after delivering a crushing blow to Ajax Cape Town’s Premier Soccer League title aspirations with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory on Sunday. In other matches, Sundowns beat Chiefs 1-0; Celtic and Leopards drew 2-2; and AmaZulu and Platinum Stars drew 0-0.

Ajax stumble against Stars

Ajax Cape Town dropped two points as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a stubborn Platinum Stars side in an Absa Premiership clash at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night. Ajax started the game well and had an early chance when Russell Mwafulirwa fired in a volley from the edge of the area, which drew a good save out of Stars keeper Wayne Sandilands.

Wits own goal hands Ajax victory

An 85th-minute own goal by Wits defender Wilson Shendzelani gave Premier Soccer League log leaders Ajax Cape Town an invaluable 1-0 victory at a rain-swept Bidvest Stadium on Friday night. Shendzelani sunk to his knees and held his head between his arms at the final whistle .

Klate strike seals SuperSport victory

SuperSport United cut Ajax Cape Town’s lead at the top of the Premier Soccer League to one point after a superb goal by Dane Klate gave the hosts a 3-2 victory over Ajax on Tuesday night. Kermit Erasmus scored his first goal for Matsatsantsa in the 23rd minute, but Nathan Paulse equalised six minutes later for the Cape club.

Ajax cement position at top of the log

Ajax came from behind to beat 10-man Black Leopards in scorching heat at the Thoyandou Stadium in their Absa Premiership encounter on Saturday afternoon. The home team led 1-0 at the break. Both played their hearts out from start to finish, but Greg Rosslee’s Cape Town team looked hungrier than Bobby Solomon’s players.
