Easter road death toll continues to rise

Two people died and three were injured — two of them seriously — in a three-car pile-up on the N1 south near the Grasmere toll plaza on Saturday night. Netcare 911 has responded to more than 280 accidents on the country’s roads since the start of the Easter weekend, said spokesperson Nick Dollman.

Four die, 16 injured in Cape Town crash

Four people died and 16 were injured — one critically — in Cape Town on Saturday morning in one of more than 285 accidents on the country’s roads since the start of the Easter weekend. In Durbaniville, Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said a car collided with a minibus taxi in the early hours of Saturday.

Truck driver shot after collision

A truck driver was shot and wounded by a man in a car with which he had collided in Randburg on Friday, said Netcare 911. Spokesperson Nick Dollman said the truck driver apparently went through a red traffic light, colliding with the passenger side of a family car. A mother and her two young children were injured in the collision.

Four-year-old survives mall balcony fall

A four-year-old boy was in a serious but stable condition in hospital after falling from a balcony at the Cresta shopping centre in Northcliff, said Johannesburg paramedics on Sunday. A Netcare 911 spokesperson said the incident occurred on the first level of the complex near several restaurants on Saturday night.
