At least one person has died, and another is missing following heavy rains which caused flooding across the Western Cape.
Authorities in the Western Cape are conducting continuous assessments to determine the extent of flooding caused by heavy rains.
Two men from the United States and one from Norway died when the shark-diving boat they were in capsized near Kleinbaai on Sunday, the National Sea Rescue Institute said. A spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the boat capsized offshore of Kleinbaai near Gansbaai with an estimated 19 people on board.

Heavy rainfall in the Southern Cape on Wednesday resulted in a number of people calling for assistance, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said on Thursday. ”The NSRI Mossel Bay helped evacuate residents near Groot Brak River as rising water threatened to burst the river bank in the vicinity of Pine Creek,” said NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon.

A 14-year-old boy was recovering in hospital on Thursday after he was attacked by a shark in Strand, Cape Town, the National Sea Rescue Institute said. Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said Andrew Smith — who lives in the area — was surfing at about 5.30pm on Wednesday when he felt something pulling him by the legs.

The Ntini fishing vessel docked at Mossel Bay on Saturday, nearly a week after its crew reported sighting an iceberg south-east of St Francis Bay, said the National Sea Rescue Institute. Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said that despite rumours to the contrary, no one on board had taken photographs of the iceberg.
It is highly unlikely that there could be a massive iceberg off St Francis Bay, a top South African Weather Service marine researcher said on Tuesday. On Monday, the crew of a fishing vessel, the Ntini, reported seeing a massive iceberg — estimated at 25m in length and 25m high.
Ships have been put on alert after an iceberg was spotted floating off St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape, the Cape Argus reported on Tuesday. The large white mass, said to be about 35 nautical miles offshore, is estimated to be 25m long and 20m high. It was reported by a single vessel, the Ntini, which was sailing in the area on Monday night.
