Raselemane: Death of a football natural

He was what could justifiably be termed a soccer ”natural”, instinctively going about his business on the field, doing the right thing at the right time. But the tragic death of likeable Wits University and former Bafana Bafana striker Abram Raselemane in Bloemfontein on Tuesday at a time when he was barely into his 30s was anything but natural.

Arsenal stay top as United and Chelsea falter

Arsenal were left two points clear at the top of the Premier League table as rivals Manchester United and Chelsea both dropped vital points on Sunday. Manchester City completed a first league victory at Old Trafford since 1974 and a season double over Manchester United with a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from strikers Darius Vassell and new signing Benjani Mwaruwari.

Bafana bank on Zuma for goals

When world football supremo Sepp Blatter implored the South African national team to ”wake up” after poor results last year, he could not have been referring to Sibusiso Zuma. Only last weekend Zuma demonstrated again that he is razor sharp when it comes to putting the ball in the net.

Rooney return perfectly timed for United

Sir Alex Ferguson will let Wayne Rooney off the leash as Manchester United start their Champions League challenge at Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday. Rooney has been sidelined since breaking a metatarsal bone in United’s first match of the season against Reading, but he is set to feature at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.
