SA police fired rubber bullets and water cannons on Tuesday to quell protests in Orange Farm near Johannesburg in which one policeman was shot.

The Golden highway was opened to traffic on Tuesday following a violent protest on Monday that left a Johannesburg metro policeman injured.

Expect ANC members to quit in "big numbers" in support of a breakaway party, suspended ANC veteran Mosiuoa Lekota said on Thursday.

An unknown number of Orange Farm residents were injured in a protest over poor service delivery on Monday, Gauteng police said.
