Nominate your Climate Change Leaders

Nominate Your Climate Change Leaders

Nominations are open for Climate Change Leaders 2014.

Climate change is the most important challenge facing not just South Africa, but the entire world. Long after the current financial crisis is over, climate change will still be a threat we all have to contend with.

In light of the threat posed by climate change, the Mail & Guardian is inviting nominations for its latest initiative: Climate Change Leaders. This follows on from the M&G's Investing in the Future and Greening the Future awards, both known for celebrating organisations and individuals that make a difference.

In the Climate Change Leaders initiative, we will celebrate individuals who are leading the fight against climate change, on a big and small scale.

What makes a climate change leader?
A climate change leader is someone who is actively making a difference in South Africa.

Examples of Climate Change Leaders include, but are not limited to, individuals who

  • drive renewable energy projects,
  • create ways of ensuring food security despite climate change,
  • design and construct green buildings,
  • protect water resources,
  • design and manufacture products that drive climate change,
  • find ways to preserve biological diversity in the face of climate change,
  • assist communities to use water responsibly, and
  • create frameworks for a low-carbon society.

Categories
Climate Change Leaders come from different parts of society, so we have created eight categories in which these leaders excel:

  • Public sector (national, provincial, local and state-owned enterprises)
  • Education and training
  • Civil society and NGOs
  • Business
  • Science and technology
  • Building and construction
  • Community
  • Tomorrow's Leaders (under 18s)

We invite companies, parastatals, NGOs, schools, institutions and individuals to join in the celebration of excellence by showcasing the individuals in your organisation and their success stories in making the world a better, safer and more sustainable place for those who live in it.
