Skeletons unearthed at Cape Town Waterfront

Hundreds of human skeletons have been unearthed at a construction site at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, in Cape Town — the site of BP’s new head office — the Cape Times reported on Wednesday. Construction in the area has been halted while archaeologists from the University of Cape Town excavate the human bones.

Play misty for me

Appearances can be deceiving. It’s an old adage but it illustrates a point often overlooked in the travel trade — luxury isn’t worth a dime if it isn’t backed up by great service and hospitality. So when you come across a destination that offers value for money, friendliness, excellent service and hearty meals, but isn’t competing for a spot in a decor magazine, it can be refreshing. Cruise control

Though the luggage being brought up the gangway at Aswan consisted of pull-along plastic suitcases rather than old leather trunks, and although the passengers were dressed in Bermuda shorts and polo shirts rather than layers of linen, boarding the MS Kasr Ibrim was like stepping into an Agatha Christie novel.

Give Iraqis control of security, leader tells US

Responsibility for the internal security of Iraq should be handed over to Iraqis as soon as possible, a key member of the Iraqi governing council urged on Tuesday. Dr Mahmoud Osman, one of the six most prominent members of the US appointed body, said: ”The coalition should leave these things to Iraqis, we could do a much better job.

Ghana agrees to sell golden share

The Ghanaian government said on Tuesday it had agreed to sell gold producer Ashanti Goldfields to South Africa’s AngloGold. The announcement was made after a cabinet meeting. The Ghanaian government holds a 16,9% golden share in Ashanti that allows it to veto any merger or takeover deal.
