Those with illegal funds offshore thought they’d probably never be caught, but that’s no longer certain. The world is a different place today, particularly after 9/11 when many countries passed laws to snuff out funding for terrorists and criminals.
The amnesty for those who illegally spirited funds out of South Africa closes on November 30, and the advice from tax experts is ignore it at your peril.

Although the money market and capital markets are pricing in a 150 basis point cut on Thursday, an economist at Metropolitan Asset Managers said the South African Reserve Bank’s monetary policy committee should err on the side of caution. In particular, the economist was worried about the current account.

Cameroon defeated Zambia 2-1 in the semifinal of the football event of the All-Africa Games in Calabar on Monday to set up a final clash with hosts Nigeria. Zambia took the lead after 12 minutes as the Cameroonian defence caved in and Isaac Chansa followed up on a rebound to find the back of the net.

The South African cricket squad, in a buoyant mood after Sunday’s seven-wicket victory in the fifth and deciding one-day international over Pakistan in Rawalpindi, received another boost on Monday when the country’s most experienced player, Gary Kirsten, arrived in Lahore to link up with the squad for the two Test matches.
