Because she grew up in a resilient, hard-working community, Kedibone Nyamakazi, 28, dreamt of becoming a teacher. That dream evolved through her educational journey, from a bachelor of education to culinary studies and finally into agriculture — a sector where her passions for learning, providing food and empowering others converged. After graduating as a professional chef in 2019, she founded a catering business that laid the groundwork for Agripremium, a farming enterprise focused on sustainable agriculture and community upliftment. Kedibone, chief executive of Agripremium, oversees livestock and crop operations, manages planning and budget- ing, mentors youth and promotes backyard farming to address food security. Her initiatives have led to the acquisition of five hectares of land, recognition in the agricultural sector and the launch of a training pro- gramme for unemployed women and youth with farming skills. Outside the business, Kedibone is active in community workshops on organic farming and environmental awareness. She credits mentors, including her sister, for instilling values of resilience and service. “If I could advise policymakers,” she says, “I’d call for accessible support for small-scale farmers and practical agricultural education in communities.”
One of the key milestones was founding Agripremium, a business that started as a small catering company and evolved into a successful agricultural enterprise. A major achievement has been acquiring 5 hectares of land, which has allowed the team to scale operations in goat breeding and organic vegetable farming. Another achievement is the launch of a community gardening programme that trains unemployed individuals in backyard farming. This initiative has empowered people to produce their own food and generate income — something that aligns deeply with values of sustainability and community upliftment. Industry recognition and awards for contributions to agriculture have been another proud moment, affirming the impact of this work. These milestones have demonstrated the importance of perseverance, adaptability and staying rooted in purpose.
I admire strong, purpose-driven women who rise above challenges to make a lasting impact in their communities — especially those in agriculture and entrepreneurship. Their resilience and ability to lead with compassion inspire me deeply. One of my biggest influences has been my sister, who taught me the value of hard work, humility and caring for others. Her unwavering belief in me gave me the courage to pursue my dreams, even when the path was uncertain. I have also been fortunate to have mentors through various entrepreneurship and development programmes who believed in my vision for Agripremium. They helped me refine my business model, build confidence and understand the value of leadership grounded in service. These mentors have played a crucial role in helping me grow not only as a businesswoman but as a changemaker in my community.
