The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has received its fifth award in 12 months for its election scanning project.
The African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) awarded the scanning project first place in the innovative management category on Wednesday.
“We are delighted to have received a fifth award for this project since transparency in the electoral process is high on our list of priorities for free and fair elections,” the IEC’s chairperson, Advocate Pansy Tlakula, said in a statement.
Organisations in the public sector submit their innovations to the AAPAM and a panel of judges shortlists the top five entries.
IEC spokesperson Lydia Young said the scanning project had received one international, one continental and two national awards.
In 2010, it received first prize from the Centre for Public Service Innovation (CPSI) in the category of innovative use of information technology for effective service delivery.
At the same award ceremony, it was chosen as first runner-up in the category for public sector innovator of the year.
