Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has reminded South Africans to send him tips on what they would like to see in the next budget, particularly regarding economic growth, the ministry of finance said on Thursday.
“This year, the minister would specifically like to get the country’s views on how South Africa can achieve an economic growth rate of 7% a year over the next 20 years,” the ministry said in a statement.
“South Africans are also encouraged to send through tips on how this growth can be made more inclusive, i.e. spread to more people and thus reducing unemployment, poverty and inequality.”
Gordhan will present the 2011 budget to Parliament on February 23 at 2pm.
The campaign is run throughout the year and “ensures active participation in government programmes, especially matters related to the economy”.
It was launched in 2001 under previous finance minister Trevor Manuel.
Tips can be sent via the National Treasury website at www.treasury.gov.za; faxed to 012 315 5126; or posted to Private Bag X115, Pretoria 0001.
Gordhan also has a fan page on Facebook where tips can be posted. — Sapa
