A NEW inquest into the murder of Swapo member Anton Lubowski will be staged in Windhoek in February next year, it was announced on Thursday.
An earlier inquest into the death of the Windhoek lawyer, who was gunned down outside his home on September 12 1989, named Civil Cooperation Bureau operatives Ferdi Barnard, Slang van Zyl, Staal Burger, Calla Botha and Chappies Maree responsible for the murder, as well as former mercenary Donald Acheson. New evidence is expected to be presented at the inquest.
Charges against Acheson, an Irish national, were dropped shortly after the murder CCB operatives called as witnesses declined to travel to Namibia. Acheson was deported from South Africa in 1991.
Barnard was subsequently implicated in the murder by his former girlfriend, Amor Badenhorst, who alleged that Barnard was Acheson’s CCB handler.
